I have a Kenmore washer that agitates weakly and at the same speed regardless of what speed I set it on. It also spins slowly. Do you think that it may have a bad coupling or a bad transmission? Thanks in advance for your help!

The first thing I would check is the speed resistance at the motor. It suppose to be: the low speed winding across W-BK and W-OR - 2.6 Ohms, the medium speed winding across W-BK and W-V - 1.5 Ohms, the high speed winding across W-BK and BU - 2.3 Ohms, the start winding across Y and BK-Y 5.1 Ohms.
Post your findings, please.
Gene.

Hi Gene!
Sorry that I didn't reply earlier. Thank you for your response.
Before I checked the resistance on the motor I filled the tub again to see how the washer would agitate. It agitated fine and at different speeds when I changed the speed setting. So I washed two loads last night and a load now and everything seems fine. I did nothing and checked nothing. Is this common for a motor to act up and then run nornal? I'll look forward to your response.

Your timer or speed control is sometimes applying power to both high and low speed windings in the motor. For intermittants, most probably the timer. Just check next time it acts up. On second thought, if both agitate and spin where bad, it's your speed control switch, check per schematic.
