The refrigerator is not on it's lowest setting and cools fine, but the freezer does not. It can make ice and keep it frozen, but meats and bread stay soft. I'm assuming the unit is from the mid-90's era, it is a Whirlpool "Designer Style" and is a secondary piece, but the extra freezer space would be nice. Is this something worth looking into? Could it be something I can repair myself? Thanks!!

Hello,Is the refrigerator running all the time or does it shut off and on like most refrigerators.See if there is a lot of ice build up in the freezer. Also check to see if the fan is working down by the compressor. It is possible that it is low on refrigerant. This is something that you could fix yourself if you have all the tools and the nohow. I did look a the refrigerator for the model # and it seems like a nice refrigerator. If you want to check to see if it is low on refrigerant.you can take the back panel off in the freezer. Then you should see some tubing it should be frosted up almost all of the tubing. If it is only half or less then you are out of refrigerant.I recharge refrigerator for about $45.00 but that is where I live.

Thanks for getting back to me. It does seem to run a lot, however since it's in the basement and I'm not down there that much, it's hard to tell if it ever shuts off or not. According to the manual, it is supposed to run most of the time and may seem to run all the time?? There is no ice in the freezer at all, and the fan on the bottom is running as I can feel a pretty good flow of air coming out from underneath it. As for checking the refregerant lines, am I taking the panel off from inside the freezer? Just want to make sure of where I'm looking.
