Hi - This is a great forum. To start with I have made several searches to see if my problem has been discussed (a couple of posts were close), but I need a bit of help!
My freezer stopped cooling properly. One of my friends is certified (he owns some fast food resturants), we went through the components to check them out:
- compressor, there was a tap installed (not while I have owned the home) on the low side , we checked that it runs about 40psi not running and cold and about 10-15psi when hot and running. That seems a bit high considering other posts here.
- evaporator, this feels cold and the front and luke warm at the back
- defrost circuit, this was broken we have replaced.
- condensor, is clear and the fan is running (good airflow) but is only luke warm at the top.
- evaporator fan, this isn't running, I don't believe the piece of the evaporator that it is touching is getting could enough.
We tried adding some freon, it had limited impact and did not get us much colder adding anymore had no impact at all.
My question is what should I do from here? It looks to be either the compressor or a restriction in the system? I'm also wondering that if the tap had been put on previously, if a leak was fixed and that moisture got in the system, and maybe wasn't properly evacuated.

I'm really starting to think that the problem I have is the compressor, I suspect that its output has diminished over time.... Has anyone seen this or typically do the compressors work or not?
