The bearing on my water pump went out. I have ordered a new one. My buddy says when his pump went, so did his timer. How do I tell if the timer is bad or not before putting a new pump on it and putting it back together.

These two items are about as independent of one another as two parts can be. If you machine was operating correctly before your pump problem it should almost certainly operate correctly after you replace the pump.
