After the microwave stop heating food, my wife tried to use it once or twice. By the second try it started making a crackling sound and then a light pop. I opened it up to see if I could find anything obvious. I did find a very apparent burn mark on the main board. So I replaced the main board, but now when I turn it on it sounds like something is loading up. ( a deep humming sound ). I affraid to leave it on for an extended time for fear that I might damage the main board again. What should I do?

From your description of the sound, I lean more toward a failing transformer.

Thank you for your responce Magician 59. I do have two follow up questions if I may. Would the failing transformer be the cause of the burnt main board? Keep in mind the the board was truely burnt. You could see where one of the small component leads was melted off and no longer making contact to the board. Should I wait to replace the transformer first before I try to heat something up?
Thank you in advance,
Fred
