My GE cooktop works fine, except one knob simply won't turn. I know that I either need to replace the gas valve (part 314, which has the knob stem on it), or the valve switch, (part 323, which seems to go around the stem). I can't tell what's keeping it from turning. Any thoughts: do I replace one or the other or should I replace both? Link to the diagram: Model JGP626WEV5WWThanks much in advance . . .

Most likely it the gas valve that has failed. Something inside must have broke loose preventing it from moving. The valve switch is part of the ignition system and should be fine. But to be safe, remove the top and slide the valve switch off the valve shaft and see if it still won't move. If it doesn't replace the valve. If the valve works but the switch is the problem, then the switch would be the problem.
