The washer has not been cycling. I thought the problem could be the timer; however, I find that when I push the lid to the back when I close it the cycle will begin. Is this a lid switch problem or a timer problem?

Please check your model number.
At AppliancePartrsProsn the closest matches came up as trash compactors.
At the Maytag site nothing came up

Does sound like a lid switch problem to me.

I have a whirlpool washer. It fills with water, then just sits there, until you bang the lid down and sometimes it starts, sometimes it does not.

Here is the fix.

Reach up under the back left corner, where the lid conects and feel for a little metal bar. Slightly(very lttle bit) bend it toward the back of the machine.

After about 3 months or so, it was doing the same thing, so i pushed the rod backward again and Fixed.

Hope this helps you. I am no expert, just a person with alot of problem appliances.

Good Luck.
