Hi There
I have a Maytag Electric Dryer that is about 3-4 years old. It's been working great until my neighboors tried to dry something that obviously broke it. I have tried to look into a real repair man, but they are too expensive. If I can fix it myself, I would like to try.
The dryer turns on but then makes this screaching sound and the drum inside doesn't turn. I can't even turn it by hand. I don't know how to take the sides etc..off to look inside..I am sure I can figure that part out but then I have no idea what I am looking at! :) Any help would be great.
I was told that it could be a motor or a roller....either way it would be about $300, which sounds like a lot I may jsut buy a new one..
Thanks Kathy

Here are the parts for your model Model SDE3606AYWHere is a service manual, although not your specific Model it should be close to yours physivcally http://www.servicematters.com/m...ibrary/docs/16023020.pdfHere is a good site for basic info http://www.applianceaid.com/dryers.htmlOK something is jamming it up so should not be that hard to find. Before even opening it up run your fingers around the front and the back of the drum where the felt seals are, could be something is trapped between the drum and the machine's frame. Should not be an expensive repair. Make sure you check the belt carefully, if the motor pulley has been rotating while the drum is stationary it probably burned a wear mark into the belt. Then you will get the sucker all back together and the belt will snap a week later or whenever you really need the dryer. |
