thanx Gene for your help. This fridge belongs to my parents so I will be going down to their house today to see if i can get that cover off & find the problem.A couple of questions though. Is this a common problem with the Whirlpool refridgerators & after I get that cover off, will I be able to observe dispenser as it is functioning to actually see what it is doing wrong???

By your description it does not look like a common problem to me.
