I have a Whirlpool TC8700XBP0 trash compactor. It came with the house I bought. I've used compactors several times before and this one doesn't seem to do much. I think I can compact better with my foot. It also makes a grinding sound as the plate starts down to compact. It does work, just not very well. I don't have a manual so I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to it to get it to truly compact.

Compaction starts after the drawer is about 1/3 full.

The cause of the noise could be if the power nuts (#12 on the break down diagram) have to be lubricated or if they worn out and have to be replaced.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool trash compactor Model TC8700XBP0

Here you can find the Owners manual.
