Hi there, per the title, the washer agitates, but will not spin nor remove the remaining 5 inches of water. I removed the hose from the tub to the switch and after taking a bath, I found a Nintendo DS game inside the hose. Replaced the hose and tightened, spin worked once, but won't work again. There is noise, like several dimes and pennies bouncing around.

Most of the post replies lean towards a new lid switch, but my question is whether or not a blockage would cause the pump switch to stop the draining of the tub and stop the spin from happening? (Since the rest of the cycles work (fill, agitate, etc.) and the timer does turn.)

Over the 10 years, we have replaced the tranny twice (once under warranty, once on us).

I'd hate to spend 1200 on a new Washer, if this is simply a blockage.

Any help would be appreciated.

further update.....I located the coins by tearing off all hoses. They were inside the opening at the pump intake. Removed the coins, tore out all hoses and flush them (minimal debri was found), and re-assembled. Same problem:

Washer fills, agitation works, water does not drain, spin cycle does not kick on. Timer runs to completed cycle.

BTW...the pump fan kicks on. I am guessing a new pump?

Lid switch would be a curious diagnosis to me as the washer agitates, runs through the time, the Pump fan comes on - all of which need to have the lid closed for safety.

ok....with the tub 10 inches full, the pump fan runs, it pumps NO water out and SPIN will NOT work.

I drained 90% of the water with a portable sump pump. After draining, the spin cycle works, but no water is pumped out, and it intermittently shuts off, then back on.

pump is not pushing the water out, and something is relaying the spin to shut off.

I am going to try one more thing, short of removing the tub - I will remove the drain hose that feeds the pump (this time from the tub side) to feel for any blockage at the tub.

OK....I gambled a bit and was successful. The gamble is that if you buy ANY electrical part, no one will return it once you connect it.

I found the pump on several sites on the web, including ****. **** was the cheapest, but no guarantee on how quick the pump would ship. other web based companies could get the pump here by Tuesday or Wednesday, but were pricier.

With the laundry piling up, I ventured to the local appliance parts store and came back home with a $46 pump.

GE has revised this pump and it threw me a curve when there was NO connector for the ground wire. So, before I connected the replacement pump, I pulled the ground wire off the old pump and made sure I wasn't causing the washer other problems. I tested fill, agitation and spin. all worked. That said, I knew GE was no longer grounding the pump.

Just to be safe, I connected the ground wire to one of the bolts that holds the pump into the base of the Washer.

Washer now works great! hopefully we will get a year or 2 out of the washer. She and I went out to look last night and were sold on buying a front loader....they use less water and are way more efficient. But the price tag for a decent front loader was around $600 and the high end was upward $1300. We will save our nickels in anticipation of this GE dying within the next year.

I was lucky....since all of the experts were on holiday when this happened. Just used the process of elimination....and got lucky!
