My Kenmore oven will not heat to the selected temperature. When the "preheat complete" tone sounds, an oven thermometer demonstrated that the temperature was less than that selected. As a result, I took the bottom cover and the baffle off and observed that while the ignitor turned orange, the burner did not light. A broiler burner on the other hand did light. Does any one why the over burner would not light even when the ignitor turned orange?

Not only does the igniter glow, at the same time it's glowing, it has to produce 3.2 to 3.6 amps, or 3.2 to 3.6 VAC back to the bake burner valve, to open the bi metal switch on the valve and the gas to be released and ignited. If you don't have a amp meter or multi meter to test the circuit, replace the igniter first. Good Luck, :) :) :)

Bingo! I switched the broiler ignitor with the bake ignitor and it lit almost immediately. Oddly enough the broiler wound up lighting but it took a while. I've already ordered a new ignitor. Thanks for the post.
