I know this is similar to the previous posting but mine is controlled by a CPU. My freezer is working and there is frost in it but not on the back panel which is what I was told to look for a faulty defrost unit. The upper fridge part is warm with no air coming in. I was wondering if I should replace the CPU or should I look for something else?

Is the fan in the back or top of the freezer running? A parts breakdown of your unit is only available fron LG.

It sounds like a defrost issue, but without seeing a diagram it's hard to say where to start looking.
Maybe one of the guys has access to the LG site and can assist you.

Could not find a manual for your unit but here is one for the LRFC series.
Hopefully will be close to yours

If the evaporator coils are clear of ice. It sounds like you have a problem with the damper which controls the amount of cold air which is blown into the fresh food section.

Will I have to replace the damper control or could it just be the computer board that needs to be replaced? The troubleshooting guide on the manual is close to useless. I'm having a technician look at the fridge and I want to make sure that I'm not getting taken advantage of. I can change the parts myself but I need to know for sure what the problem is. So hopefully with the info I learn here and what he tells me we can understand what the heck is going on. I'll keep you posted on what he says.

So after having the technician out to the house and looking at the unit I figured out that all they do is call up the manufacturer and they do the diagnosis over the phone and tell them what parts for me to buy. So after all of that they told me that I had to replace the damper assembly and the main cpu, which both together were over $200 and labor would be over $200. He also told me about a reset button on the cpu board that you can push and it goes through all the checks. Sure enough after I reset the button my fridge started getting cold air into the refrigerator area again. Problem fixed? I thought so but then after a night my water froze in the door dispenser and all my liquid goods in the refrigerater started to freeze. So the damper control is still broken. So instead of buying the parts needed I just upped the freezer temp from 0° to 8° and water came back in the door and all liquid items in the fridge area thawed out. Everything is cold and everything works but the fridge is still broken. So its fixed in my book and has been working for a month so far.
