Turn the thermostat off and damper door closes and pump shuts off. If i turn it on, just barely, and the damper door opens and motor turns on. I can feel the cold air coming in at the damper and i can feel it shut off so, i assume, the door is opperating correctly.

Could it be the fresh food thermostat that has died? And how do you get the covers off to get to the thermostates and the damper? i took off every screw 1/4" and phillips i could see and it still didn't want to come out. What gives?

Cannot find any info for the given model number, please check it.

Are you sure it is not a H5ASB8 as per the below parts breakdown.
Replacement parts for FRIGIDAIRE FRS26H5ASB8 Frigidaire/refrigerator | AppliancePartsPros.com

This should help you open it up, see page 16.

This thermostat controls the damper and you say that seems to be working.

I think I would check the freezer temperature. It should be 0 to 5 degrees F.
If it is too cold and/or the compressor is not cycling then perhaps it is the freezer thermostat that is the problem.

No i'm not sure about the model #. It woouldn't be the first time i have copied the wrong numbers down. Getting old sucks. I found the same issue when i tried to plug inthe model number and have been using the same one you suggested.

Thanks for the tip on getting access to the darn controls. I didn't want to break something and compound my problem.

I'm of the same opinion as you about the fresh food control. But let me ask you something, i did notice she has the freeezer stuffed with food, could poor circulation have something to do with her problem?

I would just be guessing.
I would have thought that poor circulation would have cause too high ot a temperature in the fresh food not too low.
