gas FP not lighting. has elec ignition. investigation found insulation burned off right below ceramic ignitor, so spark was arcing between wire & thermocouple. i pulled ign. wire away from th-cpl. and spark is lighting pilot every time now. ? is there some type of heat resistant i
insulation i can put around wire to prevent arcing?

Have reinsulated ign. wire, now get spark every time when tested but no spark when attempting to light pilot.

Though I have not worked on gas fireplaces I did find this pdf which seems to cover your problem.
