I have a Whirlpool Imoerial Series washer. It will spin, or wash forever if I don't manually turn the dial. Coould this be anything but the timer. I'll buy the timer and replace it, but I just want to know if there coould be any other problem. Thank you.

Does sound like a timer problem.

One way to tell for sure is to measure across the timer motor
Unplug the unit and disconnect the timer motor. Then measure it for resistance
If it is open (infinite ohms) the motor is toast.
If it has continuity it does not rule out the timer as then cause.

Next would be a live test.
When it is not advancing measure across the motor.
If there is 120 volts there then the timer is toast.
