As has been mentioned elsewhere, I have a GE XL44 gas oven. The problem started about a week ago when the oven was slow to achieve the selected temperature.

The problem got progressively worse until now, the oven doesn't come on at all. There is no "relay" sound and the igniter doesn't come on.
The Broiler and range top work perfectly.

Please help. Christmas is almost here and I need the oven for Christmas Dinner.

Thank you!

O.K. I got no response from an expert so I took a chance on my own.

Apparently, a bad igniter can demonstrate a whole host of symptoms- including your oven being slow to heat up and not achieving the selected temperature.

I replaced the ignitor and the problem is solved. Good as new!

Mine is a "round" ignitor. It has two screws which hold it in place but...good luck getting to those two screws! They're pointed downward at an angle which precludes easy access. (I'm convinced this was done on purpose because no engineer can be that stupid!)
You may find that you have to remove several metal "Pans" within the oven in order to gain access from under the burner and ignitor--but it is doable wih a bit of effort.
Estimated repair time is about 1 hour.
