Had repair man out to diagnose grinding noise.
Quoted gear replacement for $430 -sounded outrageous!
Told him I'd wait and now Unit is not functional at all. Banging and door won't open.
How difficult is
DIY gear replacemnt?

Not too difficult, did he mention the nut trunnion. Is that what you refer to as the gear?
