My trash compactor won't stop when it goes to the top. I've already check the top actuator switch with the 5 connections on it. Thanks

When you turn the start-run switch to the run position it should return to the start position by itself. If it does not do it then the switch is bad and has to be replaced. - The start-run switch Part number: AP3180525

The start button seems to return to the start position. What is happening is that when the ram reaches the top it wants to keep going up and then it starts banging until I shut it off. thanks

Even if does return, the momentary start switch contacts can be fused. There are only two parts which can cause such problem. You said the top directional switch checks OK. There is nothing else left.
