GE Profile side by side... first problem we had over the summer was water shooting, we down the back of the freezer section (ice frozen to the back and on the bottom and all over food on the trays--picture a mini deadliest catch, when the guys have to break the ice off the boat deck) since the ice sensor was not in the correct place...we believe it was due to the ice maker arm we not resetting...moving back...hubby noticed that one.... THE REAL PROBLEM now is that we heard the fan running and running and then heard scraping....
Come to find out water/ice build up BEHIND the plastic panel that covers the fan area!!! This was a SOLID piece of ice that filled the entire area. 6x6? Water was shut off as well as the ice maker so there could be not chance of any water. Everything was melted away ( from intermitment hair dryer) and the fan is running fine. What do we need to check/possibly replace to get the ice maker going again and not have ice build up this time again, behind the plastic panel where the fan is or even it shoot all over the place? If I got it right, the ice build up was on or around the fan shield (#395 on the break down diagram) and water to the refrigerator was "off" at this time? Gene.

Sorry, once this was discovered the water valve in the basement to the fridge was THEN shut off and the ice maker inside turned off so it would stop looking for water. It happened when the water was on to the fridge freezer and yes, the ice build up was behind the fan shield, not in the freezer area this time but directly next the the fan. the fan started to scrape a little bit and we could hear the scraping on the ice and the fan running all the time, that is how we finally knew something was wrong.
I believe I took off both the fan shield and also a rectangle piece that had a circle so you could see the fan. I removed to get at the ice was #248 This second piece is where all the ice was behind... right next to the actual fan.

Turn the water back on and force cycle the icemaker into a harvest. This can be achieved by grabbing hold of the ejector rod and pulling hard on it towards you and the icemaker will begin its cycle. watch where the water goes what may have happened is either the fill tube has come off the inlet or the fill cup of the icemaker has a piece of ice in it and water is overflowing out of the cup you can pour hot water in the cup and see if it flows down the funnel of the cup into icemaker or if it overflows The fill tube may have got plugged up with ice and the pressure pushed it off I think your GE has a two piece fill tube one is flexable rubber and the other is hard plastic and they have separated.But just force it and watch you'll figure it out be careful not to touch bottom of icemaker with your hands in a cycle cuz the heater will burn the crap out of your fingers lol

OK. Hubby here. I unscrewed the ice maker from the side wall and found the cup frozen and the hose/line that supplies water to it frozen solid as well. I have had the icemaker turned off for a while and the water isolated so I don't know if this is a result of the icemaker being idle. If I turn the icemaker back on should the heater thaw out the supply line? If so, should I leave the water off for a couple of days to make sure it thaws fully? Or, is the line being frozen a result of a bad heating element (even though it sizzled when I tried to pour water into the cup)? Please advise, and thanks for your assistance so far...

Get everything thawed out and back together and it will work the heater in icemaker wont thaw anything but the cubes in the ice mold. What you may have is a fill valve that is seeping and causing the tube to freeze which means everytime it fills it doesn't shut off all the way and water continues to drip very slowly and causing the tube to freeze leaving one or two drops then those freeze then the process repeats until it is doing what its doing now Hope that helps

OK, all thawed out and replaced water valve to stop seepage, but now icemaker will not make ice at all. have tried forcing cycle but will not go and open door sometimes to find light on icemaker blinking. Please advise.

If the green LED on the ice maker is blinking, it shows there is a problem with the ice maker. This ice maker is not repairable and has to be replaced. - The part number for the ice maker is AP4345120Gene.
