I have a gas dryer that takes 2 or 3 cycles to dry clothes. The vent is clear. How do I check the gas valve for proper operation?
Thanks...Mike

Tub,

There should be a 1x1in. plastic cover in the lower left side of the front panel.

That block is removable, and once removed, you can observe the ignition process and heating cycles by peeking through the opening.

You may have a weak set of coils on the gas valve, that are not allowing the gas to release after the burner cycles a few times.

If your gas burner cycles properly, then you would want to check the temperature selector switch, and the regulating thermostat.

The switch maybe stuck in the low or medium heat setting, or the thermostat could be also stuck in the low temperature range, causing long dry times, since you stated the vent is clean and clear.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the response. Here is an update. Put clothes in dryer. Temp setting of high=cotton. Started dryer, igniter glowed and gas valve opened and there was fire. Ran for about 5 minutes, flame turned off. Ignitor started to glow and then turn off with out fire. This cycling went on for a couple of minutes with no fire ever appearing. Then I decided to put the temp setting on medium. A couple more cycling with the ignitor and then it ignited. Stayed on for a short while and then the flame turned off. The cycling with the ignitor started again with no flame reappearing. So I am guessing the gas valve. Right?

Tubguy

You're 99% correct,
The problem is in the gas valve, but,

I would repair the unit with a set of gas valve coils, instead of a complete valve assembly,
