I think our Maytag is acting up.
Clicking and alot of "on an off" cycling.
should I start throwing parts at it or move on.
Not one problem with it all these years, potential simple fix?
Want to check electrical components, need info/ troubleshoot manual.

Pry off the cover on the side of the compressor, and replace the start device, square black item, AP2966871. This item is rather expensive,and rather reliable, but worth a try. Also, check for burnt wires at the compressor. If you have a meter, check for a compressor short to ground.

Will try and see what I find. Thanks again. how do you short a run capacitor? What kind of resistor do you use? Is it a must?

No need to short a run capacitor, only AC running through it. A DC voltage to it would build up a charge, but not AC.

Just had it all apart.
Everything looks good.
compressor checks fine,
didnt replace anything yet as I am wondering if there may have been some corrosion on a couple of terminals.
Built Jan '94.
It is back together and running with no issues... yet.
now that feet are wet, comfortable with puttings parts into it.
Thanks for input, greatly appreciate it.

If you did not replace parts, you may have had a period of low line voltage.

Been a couple of days, running much more normally but occasionally has its episodes like in past, not as often by far.
Since everything looked ok and compressor checked good, going to thro parts suggested at it and see if it continues.
Still looking at connections and thinking I may have issue there since it is very intermitant now.

When I order parts from this site, will they be as represented in pictures and exact replacements to original parts I have?
Will there be notification if there is a difference.
In past have tried to get parts for appliances, only to have supplier tell me to hack this part in and it will work.
Want something that conforms to original specs and fits original wiring.

The start device from this site is identical to the old one, no wiring changes needed.
