My kitchen aid trash compactor model KUCS03ftpao wont compact. there is a black metal piece that when you push the foot pedal allows compaction. this piece broke off and i need a new one. it screws into place but when i look for the piece i can't find it online.

Sounds like the part you are looking for is a switch actuator (#2 on the break down diagram). If this is not that part then look at the diagram and post the number.
