The door spring system broke and I order a new door balance link which I have not installed yet, but now all of the sudden the dishwasher will not start. All of the cycle setting lights come on when pressed except for the start button. Just before the start button stopped working the dishwasher started by itself or started several hours after cycle selection had been made, not sure which, but now will not start at all now.

Sounds like the problem is a bad user interface board. I would replace it together with the ribbon cable. - The user interface board Part number: AP3178896

It looks like you are probably right Gene, but I am having trouble accessing the panel. The info I have says to remove the 6 upper most screws on the inside of the door and the panel will drop down, but it does not. What am I missing. Also how difficult would you say its is to replace the interface panel and ribbon cable?

You probably have to remove the outer door panel.

Gene, I have received the interface board and while reconnecting everything I realized that I did not note which prongs the two wires go to that are under the plastic flap “shield” on the electronic control assembly . One of the wires has a white line on it and one is solid black. Does it matter which wire goes on which prong?

If these wires are together in a quick disconnect plug, then there is only one way to plug it in.
If they are separated, there suppose to be a marks at the each control board terminals. What are they?

Gene. They are two separate wires that have plastic sleeve type connectors on the end and they each slide over one of two metal prongs. The part the metal prongs are coming out of is a small white porcelain or plastic piece about 1”squire. I am no electrician but it could be a fuse they plug into that’s attached to the electronic control assembly. I am concerned that I will reverse the wires form the way they were originally and it might cause a problem or does it matter which wire plugs into which prong ?

If these wires should be connected to the thermal fuse, then there is no difference which wire where goes.
