There seems to be a plastic hook on the inside wall of the microwave that holds the rack in place that has melted. I know this part needs to be replaced and I have the part number. But is it possible that the sparking has damaged something else further? Also how difficult is it to replace this part?

This rack support is not too difficult to replace yourself. Just pull it out. Check if the paint around this support is not damaged. If it is then clean this spot with a sandpaper and fix it using an appliance touch-up. You can find the right one here: Touch-Up Paint and Porcelain Repair - Order Now, Same Day ShippingDo not store this rack in the microwave as recommended by the manufacturer in the Owners manual (page 13). Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool microwave Model MH8150XJB0Gene.
