Hello
I have a whirlpool Model #TC900QPDQ1 trash compactor that I recently rebuilt. I had to replace power nuts, switch and basiclly cleaned and lubed all moving parts. It worked perfectly until today when the motor will not start. It just hums. I removed the drive gear so it is not under any load and it still will not start on its own. If you spin it in either direction it will start and run fine with what appears to be plenty of power. When the motor is coasting down you can hear what sounds like a speed sensitive switch kick in. Is there a start capacitor on this motor or any part that could be causing this problem or am I doomed to replace the motor? Many thanks to anyone that may be of help.

There is a motor switch on the motor which could be your problem.

Thank you for the reply. I had looked at the switch on the parts pro site but wondered if there was anything else. I'm going to do a bit more testing to make sure it is not the top limit switch...but I doubt it. I think if I'm going to spend 82 dollars for the switch I'll kick in 50 more and get the complete motor/switch package.
