I am trying to replace an old 30yr GE electric cooktop with a Jenn-Air (used)...The opening is 30" X 21"....the new cooktop's dimensions are 30" x 21.5". How can I compensate for the needed 1 or 2 inches to mount it? The counter is ceramic tile. Is there some type of gasket that is sold? The old one has a metal frame type thing around it....don't thing I can use it to hold the new one. Thanks.

Your best bet would be to mount a 2x4 (or 1x4's one on each side) on one side of the opening and find some tile to cover it. It wouldn't take much tile to do that job and tile is easy to install. If you were close enough I'd give you the tile....lol....have a bunch I bought at an auction a few years ago. nat

Thanks for the quick response and the tile offer! Would I have to remove some tile to mount the 2x4 or do you think it could it be mounted from underneath the opening?

Yes mount it underneath the opening, then use a filler stip of wood to bring it up to level (if installing tile bring to level with allowance for appropriate tile/covering. Nat
