Problem update. Motor was perfect,LED blinking every second. Turns out the shaft & mode shifter assm. is worn out with at least a 1/2 inch play. It just pounds against the housing when spinning. Never saw anything like this before!

Was the hub nut loose, I've seen lots of these machines with loose hub nuts causing all kinds of damage.

Uh, I checked the spin basket, it was mounted solid on the spindle and spins just fine, just makes a loud metallic banging sound while spinning. When I turn the basket it has an inch or so play where it solidly hits something like my old truck with bad universal joints. This play may be normal and the motor is just cutting in and out while spinning! Really the first time I have worked on one of these, so I don't know what's normal
