The Ice Dispenser on my Whirlpool side-by-side freezer is broken.

I removed the ice tray and was able to verify that the motor still turns the coupling (#9 in image below), but the coupling spins freely when it encounters any resistance, and thus won't turn the auger and dispense the ice. Is this an issue with the coupling or the motor itself?

I removed the motor unit from the fridge and the axle is difficult to turn manually with pliers, which might suggest the gears in the motor unit itself are intact. I'm stuck trying to remove the coupling itself (#9) from the motor (#2). Also, the design appears to have changed since the drawing was made and the coupling is no longer attached by a hexagonal nut, but a circular one. Are special tools required for this step?

Thanks.

Nevermind...torqued the coupling off with pliers. Replaced it and it's working again. Sorry to bother.

I'm having an identical issue, but can't understand the steps taken to "torque the coupling off with pliers". Can anyone explain? Thank you!
