My dishwasher quit running cycles. It will cancel and drain but will not start a new cycle of any option. The clean light flashes continuously. The manual states it indicates a heating circuit failure. I have replaced the heating element but that did not clear the trouble. I have electrically bypassed the thermostat and that did not clear the trouble either. I'm thinking the trouble must be in the controls. Is there a recommendation on further troubleshooting or suspected parts that can be replaced?

I would check the service data sheet for a procedure to enter diagnostic mode. In many cases, the computer will be reset, and the dishwasher will work ok.

Thank you. I don't see anything in the manual on how to enter diagnostic mode. Is there a resource to find the service data sheet?

On Whirlpool, the service data sheet is in a pouch attached to the kick panel.

If the clean light blinks seven times, then repeats, you can reset the computer by pressing the heated dry button, then the normal button, then repeat that. All lights should come on, then hit cancel. If this happens again, you have a bad heater circuit.

I know that it's been a while since you posted this, but I felt so strongly about your suggestion, that I had to register an account and thank you profusely! I was at my witts end with my dishwasher. I had just about given up and figured it was just shot. (I was very depressed, because I hate hand washing dishes with a passion and can't afford a new dish washer right now) Your suggestion worked like a charm! Press heated dry, press normal, repeat, all lights came on, press cancel. It took seconds! Bam!!! It's working perfectly again! How did we ever get by without the internet?!?! THANK YOU!
