After operating my oven at 475 degrees for several hours, I turned the oven off and the bottom element stayed on. I have unplugged the range and then plugged it back in but the bottom element immediately begins to glow red hot. The upper element seems to function normally - I can turn the broiler on/off with the controller but the bottom element cannot be controlled. Could this be a short in the bottom element (possibly from overheating) or is the problem in the controller? The other functions of the controller seem to work fine (clock, timer, broiler).

I could not find info on the listed Model Number. Please check it. Following is info on a RF375PXEQ0 Here are the parts Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL RF375PXEQ0 | AppliancePartsPros.comHere is the tech sheet https://www.servicematters.com/d...0Sheet%20-%203196133.pdfThe upper element seems to function normally - I can turn the broiler on/off with the controller but the bottom element cannot be controlled. Does the bottom element (bake) stay on while the top cycles? Off the top of my head I would have said that the bake relay contacts were welded together but with this unit that is not possible because both relays (bake and broil) must activate (change state) for the broil to work properly. The units relays run on a either/or element. Could this be a short in the bottom element (possibly from overheating) This unit cycles the two elements in the bake mode so if the bake stays on all the time while the broil switches on/off, it could be that there is a wire shorting to either the frame or another wire. Does the entire bake element glow bright red. If it is only part of the element, it could be that it has shorted to one of the feet and is getting 120 volts through it to the frame. or is the problem in the controller? Always a possibility but I do not think so from your description. |
