These are the conditions: Noise like gears moving coming from front of icemaker. No water coming out of water valve in rear of refrigerator. Question: is there something in the icemaker itself that signals water to come from the valve up to the the cube tray? Or does the water valve constantly supply water and therefore is broken? I'd like to know before ordering a water valve if there is a possiblity it is something in the icemaker itself that is the reason no water is coming through the line.

RJ, Yes, the water inlet is controlled thru a circuit in the ice maker control module on the front of the assembly. the fill circuit in the control activates the water valve solenoid for 7.5 seconds(on average)and usually allows 4.0 to 4.5 oz.of water to fill the ice maker mold. The noise at the front of the icemaker would indicate a couple of possibilities. a) The motor has stripped gears and cannot advance through the cycle. b) The mold heater is weak or broken and cant melt the ice so the rake arm can can push the cubes up and out of the mold, this is also controlled through the module. Based on your post, you should probably start at the ice maker assembly, Part number: AP4135008

Thanks Joe, I was thinking it could be the entire control module since it has all the electric parts. But the again I know nothing about iec makers. It could get expensive trying part after part.

But that would be a buzzing noise, from the back of the refrigerator, not the ice maker control head assembly. I'm pretty sure you'll be alright with the icemaker. :) :) :)
