A few days back I came into possession of a used Maytag electric dryer model LDE710 with s/n 625336. It has a control panel that is different than any I have seen in the past 14 years ! It uses a rotary control with 4 different selections but no timer dial ? Has anyone ever seen or worked on this type of dryer ? It has a small solenoid with a plunger that when energized at the end of a cycle pushes out to hit a bell to signal the load is done drying.
Also the motor has a significant growl when trying to start the drum turning. I removed the motor and cleaned out the bearing closest to the blower wheel with minor improvement. As an alternative I installed a motor from another damaged dryer that has the opposite direction of rotation. The wheel has the fins in the opposite direction also and the electric connections use the modular plug in place of the individual faston type connectors. The electric connections were reworked and it did operate when energized with the start button. As expected the air flow is reduced since the blower wheel is turning CW instead of the original CCW direction. Has anyone ever used a motor/wheel combination such as I described with a resultant reduced air flow with success.? I am not sure it will run very long in the manner and curious to see if anyone has some experience with this type of configuration ?
