I do not see any motors in stock anywhere. Mine is 12002353. I see the rpm of various motors is 1725 and 1140 just like mine, so If I can adapt a similiar motor Id like to do that like the wp21001950 or wp27001215. I cant imagine that since the exact motor is not available that I cannot adapt a similiar motor and get it to work. Ive already welded up the outer tub holes, replaced tub seal and bearing, replaced the lower trans shaft seal, and painted the base after rust removal. Pretty good at fabrication. Just need a good motor. Any ideas on part numbers or has anyone tried making another motor work? Edited by user Saturday, February 4, 2023 12:43:42 PM(UTC)

I have a Maytag washer motor of a similar type with the following markings: p/n 37819 Model S68PXGHM-4530 3/4HP and RPM 1725/1140. It still has the pump attached . You can have it for the price of a box and shipping. I would estimate it weighs about 30 pounds . I live in Washington, Illinois with zip code 61571. quartermilecamel, any success with getting a motor or adapting a different one to your machine?
I'm in the exact same boat, need 12002353 and everywhere is sold out.
It's absolutely gut wrenching that I'm going to have to throw out this machine when everything but the motor is fine.
I appreciate any help! Thanks in advance

Update from me (the guest looking for motor 12002353 for LAT8406AAE):
I managed to find a used replacement motor on ebay by searching the motor number part that's on the motor itself (6 2016660-16).
I installed it, and it would spin fine for agitate. When the spin cycle started, I heard it click back and forth, then it overheated and the thermal switch turned it off.
Figuring whatever ruined my first motor also caused this motor to burn up, I tried to see if there was anything blocking drain or drum spin.
No problems there, so I took off the timer and tested the spin portion based on the diagram in the machine. Turns out the timer has both the low speed motor and high speed motor switches engaged at the same time! (only in the spin portion). This explains the clicking back and forth, and also explains why the motor might be burning up.
Of course, the timer for this model is discontinued like the motor, so not sure how I'm going to handle this one. A few options: 1. disconnect low motor wire and don't have delicate cycle, 2. try to find used timer on ebay, 3. try to fix timer myself???
Funny enough option 1 is similar to buying the similar motor that's available new (12002351), but doesn't have the low speed option.
I'm writing all of this, because I couldn't find anyone talking about the failure mode my washer was having online, so I figured I'd chime in.

Update on that update...
It wasn't the timer after all. I took the cover off to see if I could spot the problem, and then I couldn't replicate the continuity issue.
Fiddling around, I noticed the motor worked fine in spin if just the drum belt was on, and if just the pump belt was on, but not both together.
When the washer first stopped working, I tried replacing the belts first, but that didn't work. The old motor wouldn't run even with the belts off, hence the need for the new motor.
Anyway, the new pump drive belt was a little on the loose end, so I tried tightening it up, and now everything works????? Motor no longer clicks or overheats, and it seems to be working ok.
It's weird to me that a loose belt would make the motor overheat like that, but the world is a mystery to me anyway, so there you go.
