Can't pull out Motor/Transmission in Whirlpool Washer

I've managed to remove my agitator on my LA5558XSW0 Washer, but when I unbolt the transmission/motor assembly it will only drop about 2 inches, which is about how far the shaft is sticking out above the spanner nut. It sure seems like the shaft should just pull out. But there is a fair amount of corrosion, so it's hard to tell if I need to remove other parts to drop the motor/trans. Ideas? I can't find a way to post a photo here, but mine looks just like the image at the 2:00 mark in this video: Thank you!

Still having problems.... It's crazy... In every video I've seen on this topic, the shaft just pulls right out. Mine will only pull out to where the knurled portion of the shaft starts. I've tried banging on it with a hammer/block of wood, and it won't budge. And now it's so stuck, I can't even push it back up, so I'm really in a pickle. All ideas welcome!

You take the three bolts out and the transmission should pull straight down. If you have corrosion on the shaft above the top bearing, that is probably what's stopping you. If you can push the transmission shaft back up, you could clean up the corrosion and smooth it up with some sandpaper. It needs to be smooth enough to slide through the bearings inside the center.

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply with the suggestion to remove corrosion from the shaft. I was having the exact same problem and following your advice fixed it with a wire brush and some sandpaper. Went from frustrated to success in nothing flat. Thanks again.
