Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 5/28/2009(UTC) Posts: 5		My freezer is cold and my refigerator is hot. I have turned up both ref/freez controls to max but refrig is still 60. No icing in the freezer seen. I cleaned coils with no help. I get the impression its probably the damper. How do I test this theory before ordering parts and which parts would I buy. Thanks. kathy

If it's closed the air can't get through. Here's a diagram of your parts to help you find it. Damper and diffuser parts are the parts involved. A linkage could be disconnected. Move the fridge temp control to watch the action.

I see a small plastic piece that goes to the freezer, to block/open air flow to the freezer. I dont see any 'baffle' like I expected. There is a small mechanical piece in the middle of the top of the refrigerator assembly who's purpose I can't figure out. Any suggestions as to our next step?

Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 5/28/2009(UTC) Posts: 5		9 is a cheap plastic part, I presume that could be called a damper. it appears to cover and uncover a vent depending on how the freezer temp is set. I figured out the part I was confused over, the defroster. the only part I can figure might not be working is the thermostat, thermister. Any suggestions on confirming this is the part we need? Thanks for your help.

Rank: Advanced Member Groups: Senior Expert Joined: 3/10/2009(UTC) Posts: 1,363		The easiest way to test a thermistor is to turn a stove top on, or carefully use a lighter (at a safe distance) to safely heat the thermistor. Hook your ohmmeter up to the leads and watch for the resistance to drop/raise, if it does not then the thermistor is probably defective.

We then adjusted the ref/freez and it seems to be running fine. I would have though we would have gotten frost inside the freezer. Thanks a million for your help!
