I was having problems with the washer/dryer starting when I depressed the touch pad on the controls. After sitting several months unused the signal started chirping so I decided to give the touch pad a try and all of a sudden the washer started working again. The control panel is not a part that can be ordered so I thought I would have to replace the washer/dryer after 30 years of service. I have maintained this appliance countless times over the years and was about give up on it when it came back to life. Any ideas why sitting idle for at least 2 months would bring the control panel back to life?

Touch panels are strange... heat, humidity, and age can affect them. Just be glad it "wants" to work again, and don't be surprised when it quits again.
