The evaporator fan on my Kenmore French door refrigerator model number 253.54362409 stopped working after we had a large lightening storm come through here a couple weeks ago.

I removed the old evaporator fan and checked the line voltage on the clips going to the fan: they read 120 Volts. So I assumed the fan was bad. I replaced the fan with Electrolux Frigidaire 240369701. When I hooked up the new fan (or the old one for that matter), the voltage on the leads has dropped to zero or just a few volts and the fan fails to run. Taping the door close mechanism has no effect.

Is something in the electrical system causing my voltage to disappear when the fan is hooked up? Or could the replacement fan be the wrong one? It was listed for my fridge, but I did note the amperage rating was 0.135A compared to 0.09A on the old one.

The compressor seems to be working fine. The evaporator coils are icy pretty quickly when I turn the fridge on.

Thank you for your help!
