According to the manual for the meter the 200 setting has a resolution of 0.1 Ohm and the 20k setting has a resolution of 10 Ohm.
Further confusing me is that when I test the CN8 plugs with the meter set to the 20k setting I get a reading of 4.62 across the Blue and Pink wires and measured infinate resistance at the Orange to Blue and Orange to Pink tests. However if I set the meter to 200 I get infinate readings at each test.
I then proceeded to remove the motor and tested the pins again with the same readings at each combination as noted above, so I think the harness is good.
Based on the information I beleive that my meter must be set at the 20k setting and that the readings taken at the CN9 connector of 0.00 indicate a short at the motor and the motor needs to be replaced?
Any further insite would be greatly appreciated, thank you AKuhns, You can set the multi meter resistance setting wrong, and you will receive an "open" circuit reading if you do. You want to use the lowest setting possible, or the closest setting without going over. Based on the information for the 20K setting, your motor tests fine, and so does the harness. You'll need to retest using the 2K or 20K resistance setting, on the meter.

Thanks for the response. I am still a bit confused though. My meter has five settings. 200, 2000, 20k, 200k and 2000k.
200 is the lowest setting and when testing the CN9 Blue, Red and White combinations I read 2.7 however when I test the CN8 Blue and Pink using this setting I read infinate continuity.
If I change the meter setting to 20k and test the CN8 Blue and Pink wires again I read 4.62, however if the meter is on the 20k setting and I test the CN9 Blue, Red and White I read 0.00.
Measuring Ohms is not my thing, I get the basic concept but setting the meter for proper testing sometimes eludes me. I am under the impression that I should be testing the CN8 and CN9 connections using the same setting on the meter? If that is the case my readings do not make sense to me. Any more help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

AKuhns, Ok , your meter has 200 ohms as the lowest resistance setting, Place the meter at 200 and recheck the CN9 pin 1 to 2, pin 1 to 3 and pin 2 to 3 you should have a resistance reading of 3 ohms +/- 10%. Reset your meter to the 20K setting (thousandths of ohms) and check the CN8 blue to pink wires you should have 4.5 ohms resistance (+/- 10%0 on that setting. If you have those readings in the connectors at the control board, the motor and wiring harness are OK and you'll need to replace the control board. If not you'll need to check the harnesses for kinks crimps and twists then check the motor terminals using the same meter settings. You'll have this washer diagnosed in a few minutes and repaired in no time.

Joe, Sorry for the long delay. Thank you for clarifying the testing proceedures. I have since determined that the motor was fine and that I needed a new control board. Trouble free through 6 loads of wash and looking good.

Hi Joe!
I'm having the same issue as the OP with my Maytag Neptune front load. 3E error during spin, intermittent, can restart and will finish sometimes. I've done the resistance tests:
At the motor: 3.3-3.4 ohm @ 200 setting on meter on all 3 pairs At the CN9 connector: 3.3-3.4 ohm @ 200 setting on meter on all 3 pairs
At CN8 pin: blue - pink - 4.7 ohm @ 200k setting, infinite on the other 2 pair
So, Control Board?

I do have a question about testing at the motor.
There are 6 wires on the motor. Which ones do I test?

Thanks in advance! Mike, It's best to check the motor resistances at the CN9 and CN 8 connectors on the main control board, that way you're testing the complete circuit of each motor winding and the wiring. Unplug the connector, using a multi meter, place the meter probes across pin 1(blue) and pin 2 (white) you should read approx. 3 ohms resistance. then Place the meter probes across pin 1 (blue) and pin 3 (red), you should read the 3 ohms resistance, then place the probes across pin 2 (white) and pin 3 (red) you should have the 3 ohms resistance( as long as you have the same resistance readings on each test, the motor windings are OK. Then disconnect the CN8 connector and check across pin 1(pink) and pin 3 blue for 4 to 5 ohms resistance and then test pin 4 orange to the pink and blue wires, you should have infinite resistance on each test. If all your readings are correct/in range, then you have an issue in the main control board.

Thanks Joe! When the the washer is filling, it does a couple of turns, which I think is what it is supposed to do. Then it goes to 3E after about a minute.
All of the readings from the board match the numbers you gave.
Is there a particular revision of the control board I should look for?
