Dryer was squeaking like crazy so assumed drum bearing. Drum bearing kit on order but dryer quit altogether. Hit start button and now nothing but a buzz like it wants to start. I can manually rotate drum hit start n it will spin for a few seconds but then stop again. Motor? Drum bearing? Thoughts?

Very likely the motor has gone bad.

The new motor is $106.40 If the dryer is in good shape, no rust or other damages, it might be worth a new motor.

The motor Part number: AP2107144
Part number: AP2107144

This is the first issue since buying this thing. I took drum out and reconnected front cover to power and the motor would not spin and began to smoke on the second attempt to start. My heating element is brown and rusted looking (see pic). Should this be changed while i have it all apart? Already ordered drum bearing kit so thinking might as well do what i can while i have this open if recommended??

Last question is the fan connected to the motor, when i disassembled mine, it had what i thought was just lint around the lint collector on the door. Was that lint or did i tear off some much needed foam? See image...
Thanks in advance!

The dryer heating element assembly will cost you $61.60
You also may want to check the upper and lower felt seals in the front (#20 & #21 on the diagram)

The dryer heating element assembly Part number: AP2107129
Part number: AP2107129

The upper felt seal Part number: AP3579413

Ordered motor, new idler pulley, and heating element. Felt and foam are still looking good. Paid $249.99 for this dryer many years ago. Hoping by replacing the parts mentioned so far, will get us at least 10 more years out of this dryer. Have 9 of us in the household so this dryer has seen many loads and has stood the test of time.

Appreciate the help and will post back the results. Thanks again!

In my haste to put back together, drum wasnt seated right and when i went to start it, it attempted to spin but caught the heating element coil, snapping it. Connected old heating coil spring and now have heat again. Reassembling and taking my time...

Old spring glowing red all the way around, am I ok to continue using it?
