My Maytag Centennial washer started making a banging or knocking noise when agitating. The clothes also wrap around the agitator. The agitator dogs are good. It spins and drains like it should, which I believe eliminates the clutch and motor coupler. I suspect the transmission. The part number I come up with is W10140307. Is this the functionally the same as the Whirlpool number 3360629? To my untrained eye the only difference is the Maytag item is $100 more. Maybe I don't need the transmission, what I else should I be looking at. Thanks, Mark.

If its trying to agitate while spinning or making a nasty grinding noise during agitation, its probably inside the gearcase.
I'm not sure what, if any difference there is between the Whirlpool and Maytag gearcases. Perhaps someone that knows will chime in.
I know the Whirlpool version very well, but I've never seen the Maytag variation.
