My washing machine will agitate and drain (for the most part, but to wet) but will not spin. I cannot move the tub by hand either. Everything I have read says that the lid lock switch is probably the problem, but I would think I should be able to move the tub by hand some? Its like the tub is frozen. What is the problem?

Actually the tub isn't frozen, it just means the brake is holding tight (as it should). I doubt its your lid switch if its drain water and not spinning your thrust bearing might need to be replaced.
The motor spins the drain pump and transmission via a belt. If the lid switch were bad it wouldn't run and drain at all.
The thrust bearing is what releases the brake allowing the tub to spin.
Here is that part (which includes a how to video)

Thank you for your reply. I will order the part and try to fix this myself. I think I can! The videos with step by step directions make it seem so easy. I'll reply again once ive got the part and changed.

The link you gave is for a whirlpool, are they interchangeable? I have a maytag. Thanks so much for your help.

Whirlpool now owns Maytag and is the supplier of the parts new and old.

Thanks Bob! Before posting my question I read a lot of previously answered ones here on this site. One persons problem was similar but they never came back to tell if the problem was fixed. I commented, wishing they would. Anyway, the repair man, Joe, gave me a solution that I tried before yours as his did not involve buying a part (which is always great eh?)
Anyway this is it, I held the lid open, used knife to hold lid locker thingy down all while the machine was in spin cycle and reached in to turn the drum. Instantly it took off and now works. I'm ecstatic over how easy it was.
Thank you for taking time to respond to my questions. God bless you and this here site.
