I bought my a house a few years ago and the appliances came with the house. The refrigerator is a side by side Whirlpool with water and ice in the door. As long as we've owned the house, the water feature never worked, but the ice maker always worked fine. Now, the ice maker has stopped working. The optics seem fine. I manually filled the tray and the water froze, but the ice was never ejected into the bucket on the door. Any ideas??

Start by removing the front cover of the ice maker and using an insulated wire to jump the T and H points. This should force the ice maker to harvest. You can check the optics by holding down the flap that blocks the beam when the door is open. If the status light blinks, the optics boards are bad, if it's on steady, go to the ice maker and force a harvest, see what it does and repost.

Where exactly are they located? Do I need to remove the ice maker to access them?

I'm going to need the full model number so I can look and see what design you have for sure. Most whirl pool ice makers are easy as pie to jump out, some are set in sideways though. Post the model and I'll take a look and tell you how to access the test points. If you don't have a jumper wire, are scared of electricity and don't own a multi meter, you may want to rethink tackling this repair. Just throwing that out there.
