Hi. My elderly mother says that her dryer makes a loud squealing noise when she is drying clothes. When I went and tried it (empty) it did not squeak. I only ran it about five minutes.
I am now wondering if the weight of the clothes makes a difference. My theory is that the drum belt might be slipping under the weight, but I am not a repairperson.
Can you give me an idea what the problem likely is or what I can do short of dismantling it to narrow down the issue?

Thanks,

Kim

It could be several different things. Possibly a belt slip, but not likely. More likely is a bad roller or idler pulley. Possibly a bum bearing. Honestly, to be sure what it is, you need to take it apart, pull the drum and find the part that isn't moving freely.
