I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing machine that I bought used. It worked fine for some time, then stopped spinning. All other functions work: the motor runs, the machine fills and drains, and it agitates, it just won't spin.
Thanks to the helpful advice on the forums here and your how-to videos I have successfully replaced (all by myself, look at me go! :) ) the following parts, which were potentially the cause of my problem from what I read: - the motor coupling - the drive block - the clutch
The lid switch seems fine, I can press it with a screwdriver when I open the lid to keep the cycle going and the machine drains. When my machine reaches the spin cycle it makes a loud, high pitched, whirring sound and doesn't spin. I am unable to manipulate the basket to try and get it turning, it just doesn't do anything.
Every time I've completed a repair I've successfully put my washer back together and run a cycle...and nothing has changed. All is the same, still cycles, still won't spin. I'm out of ideas! What else could be the problem?
Thanks in advance!

It is possible the drive gear inside the transmission has stripped and the trany needs to be rebuilt. As you have already (successfully) pulled your machine apart, perhaps one test can help us here. Pull the transmission and then reach up underneath and attempt to spin the tub by hand.
Ooopps I'll finish reply shortly with picture ...power outage again .. stupid hurricane!

Ok here is a video showing the spin tube and brake mechanism and how it works. If yours will spin by hand as shown in video then your transmission like I said may be the culprit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iK3KmxiWgc If so you can replace the neutral drain kit part number 388253 and this should solve the issue. When searching for this part make sure to get one that has the large plastic drive gear. Here is a video on rebuilding the tranny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieZ5y47TAMk
