Whirlpool Duet washer completes it's cycle completely drained. After transferring load to dryer leaving the washer door open, an hour or so later the there's water standing in the tub. I pulled out the pump assembly and cleaned it and there wasn't much in there. Question is the pump supposed to spin freely? It's more snappy like it's attached to a rubber band when I hand spin it. Or is it an inlet valve problem? With the door in the open position and the washer off how would the valve be active?

Ed, The tub filling when off it due to a fill valve issue Part number: AP3128776
Part number: AP3128776

. In certain conditions, the inlet diaphragm will develop a deposit on the surface, or a speck of sediment will seat on the seal face and allow water to "seap" through the valve and fill the washer tub. So you'll want to replace the fill valve. The drain pump Part number: AP3953640
Part number: AP3953640
should "run" or turn smoothly, would have to think there is something stuck or embedded on the backside of the impeller or casing causing the "snappy" feel when turned, you may want to replace both parts at the same time.
