Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my post. Here is my problem that I'm hoping to get some help with. After a few days of not using the washer, I notice water in the drum. I can and have done two things when this happens. First, I can just put clothes in the washer, and wash them. After the wash cycle is done, everything is OK and no water is in the drum. Secondly, I can just run a drain/spin cycle and the water is drained. This has happened for many months now and has never been a real problem for me. Unfortunately today, I noticed water in the drum that filled up enough to move into the rubber catch all thing in the front. It filled that up and was leaking out into the floor. Moving forward I'm going to be shutting off the hot/cold water supply valves after each use, which I hope should prevent this from happening. I'm just curious as to why this has happened and what else I can do to prevent it?

This is probably happening because your water valve is not closing completely after the cycle is finished and a small bit of water is dripping slowly into the drum, just like a leaky faucet. Try changing out the water valve, this part here Part number: AP4539681
and see if that does not fix things.

sidfink43, thank you for the prompt reply. Are you aware of any directions on how to replace that part on my model washer?
Also, strange thing happened. Last night I shut off the water supply valves at the wall. This morning I had water in the drum. It was not what I would consider a little water, and certainly not a lot of water. I drained it and went out for a few hours. When I came back, there was a little water in the drum. How could this be?

Your experience is not unusual. If something was keeping the valve from fully closing, like very small piece of debris, then it can dislodge and allow the valve to close. Alternatively, if there was an electrical malfunction it can sometimes fix itself.
So watch it for a few days and if the problem has fixed itself, great, but don't go away for any extended period of time without turning off the water to the machine or else it could re-occur and you find yourself with a flood. Or you could just go ahead and replace the part and probably be done with things. You should be able to access the valve assembly by removing the top.

I'm going to take the top off and have a look at the valve this weekend. I'll just replace it. I was just surprised to see water in the drum when the water supply lines were off. I will post back here after replacing and let you know how it goes.

Ok good. Also check to make sure water is not pooling in the detergent reservoir and gradually leaking into the tub because the tubes to the tub are blocked.

Take a look at the attached picture. I removed the soap dispenser draw and that looks like black mold to me. This worries me. Also, this morning the drum was very full with water. I don't get that because the water supply valves are off. I wonder if not only the washers water inlet valve is bad, but the water supply valves could be faulty? Lery attached the following image(s):

This would be an amazing coincidence, but doesn't mean it can happen. I suggest you disconnect the hoses from the washer and put each on in a bucket and have the water valves off. See what happens in 24 hours, if one or both of the buckets have water you know you have a problem with the water valve(s).
As far as the machine is concern, clean out all the water and see if it fills again. If it does you know that water is dammed up somewhere and draining into the tub. As far as the mold is concerned, clean it out and once you have solved the water issue the mold should no longer be a problem, at least there. It is usually a huge problem in the rubber gasket which is why people like me recommend against front loaders unless a person absolutely has to have one.
