My machine was throwing an F1 code and worked fine except for water wasn't completely draining after the spin cycle.

I read that F1 could be a couple of things and started by replacing the pump motor. The water seemed to drain completely after that but just in case it was the drive belt I replaced that with a new model that was a few inches smaller than the original one. I assume after 9 years mine was stretched out and that would also improve the spin cycle.

After 1-2 small test washes I assumed all was good but the first full wash turned up a new problem. Water stopped filling and when I got that to complete it failed to advance to the next cycle. It threw another F01 ...

So I checked the pump filter for a blockage and found none. Just in case the new drive belt was the wrong one and too small, I replaced the original belt and did a test run. This time (w/o any clothes) it cycled through each cycle fine so we did a small test load of laundry. Worked perfect with only a few pounds but when we tried a medium to full sized load the spin cycle wouldn't run. It seems as though once the weight in the bin gets over a certain poundage that the motor refuses to engage the spin cycle.

I understand that F01 generally means it could also be one of the circuit boards but each is expensive and I don't need to replace the wrong board if indeed a board does need to be replaced.

Wondering if there is a sensor on the bin that might be tripping as though the load is too heavy or unbalanced. Since the spin cycle seems to work with a few pounds of laundry I'm not convinced that the central control unit board is the problem and don't want to spend $200-300 to replace it only to find out later that it was a $25 sensor.

Got any ideas or remedies?

These are Whirlpool Duet models sold under the Kenmore brand name, and are very difficult to diagnose.

Use the tech notes you should have found inside the lower service panel to do some testing on some of the components and focus on the door lock mechanism including the wiring and connections.

If you decide to replace the main board and buy from this site you can return it if a new one does not fix things. And yes, even Whirlpool factory techs have great difficulty with these models.

This weekend I did three loads with no problems then yesterday a new problem ... even though set for cold water it used just hot water (???).

It seems as though every week it's a new problem that once resolved on it's own finds a new one ... WT*???

I'll check the door latch as suggested ... Thnx
