Hi, This freezer was seldom used. Has not been turned on for about 1 yr. When plugged in I hear a soft hum. No cooling what so ever. After a few minutes compressor is hot to touch. Thermostat turns unit off so I figured that was not the problem. Any trouble shooting tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Bob

Here are your parts Parts for Frigidaire FFC05M1CW0 Freezer - AppliancePartsPros.comHere is the tech sheet http://manuals.frigidaire.com/p...df/StCloud/216787900.pdfFirst determine if the compressor is on. You can usually hear it but also should be able to feel it vibrating. Sounds like it is trying to start but for some reason cannot. Below is a good link on troubleshooting. How To Fix a Refrigerator - Appliance Repair Guide - ACME HOW TO.comCheck out the compressor windings for continuity and that they are not grounded. Note that this test can tell you if a compressor is bad it does not tell you that the compressor is good as it may have other internal problems. I cannot tell if the start device is a relay or a PTC so testing it may not be possible. In this case you have to buy a new one and give it a try. If it turns out that the compressor is shot, it will be an expensive repair and in most cases it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit. |
