2 years after installation I had this issue. If the door is closed the magnetron comes on, regardless of control setting.

Food heats in this condition.

I paid for an extended warrantee and they said the control board was bad and replaced it. That was about 2 years ago.

A few days ago, the issue returned. Today, it started working normal, but I don't trust it.

If the control board went out that fast, I thing something else took it out and it wasn't fixed right to begin with. The MTBF for these things should be less than 2 years!

What happens if that magnetron comes on when I'm away from home (or sleeping)?

Sounds like we both have the same problem, see my post :

(http://forum.appliancepartspros...tron-wont-turn-off.html) The post prior to yours.

I have not received any replies from this forum yet, but did receive one from another source. They told me it probably was the Smart Board, and could have been caused by a power surge. I unplugged the unit for 5 minutes and it cleared itself on 1-5-15. Still working on 1-8-15. I am just glad I noticed the mag was still on after the defrost cycle had completed. It was continuing to cook the edges of the meat I was trying to defrost and I don't know what eventually would have happened had I not checked on it within a few minutes.

Good luck,

Ken
